At harrelj's request, here's a thread to discuss possible board expansions. Specifically, at the outset, a section of the forum dedicated to light novels. Is that too narrow a focus for an entire section? Should we make it a subsection of a "literary goods and other media" parent section, or make just one additional combined "textual print media" themed area? No idea is too zany to air, but in the end I'm going to be the evil tyrant who makes the judgment call. I am, of course, perfectly willing to try for a consensus of some sort before exercising my brutal whims.

So. Have at, friends. What expansion(s) would you like to see?

I believe an expansion in board members would be nice Smiley

How about you open up registration without moderation? I mean, we can still kick anyone misbehaving?

For Light Novels, why not?

I get enough "fake" applicants as it is without wanting to play whack-a-mole on all of the automatic account-creation script kiddies out there. I've been considering ways to get just a bit of exposure without looking tacky and/or becoming a kiddie-magnet, though.

With the continuing rise in light novel publication, it would be good to have a place to discuss them.  Some kind of "print media" parent section with "manga" and "light novel" subsections would be good, IMO.

Yes, I know. I'm the world's slowest forum admin. What you people are doing putting up with me is anyone's guess...

...but the new expansion is up. Make of it what you will.

(For what it's worth, I doubt we'll need formal sub-sections since it's not as though threads about novels, light novels, magazines, and what-have-you can't live side-by-side. The last time I tried building sub-sections, it was unanimously agreed that I should bring it all back up to the "main level.")

\o/ Yay!

Can we kick the "Japanese Novels" thread over into the new section?  Might fit better there.

And you're right, I don't think subsections are necessary after all.

Done!

(Swift action on a board request? I must be slipping from my usual standards of goofing off and waiting ages to get around to stuff. Huh.)
